Overall Rating: ★★★★★
Price: $$$ ($30) – Available at Malin+Goetz, Bloomingdale’s, and Bigelow Chemists.
Scent: Light grapefruit.
I liked: how gentle this cleanser was on my face. It got rid of the dirt without over-drying my skin. The subtle smell of grapefruit was a nice, refreshing touch.
I didn’t like: nothing. However, guys may be hesitant to spend $30 on a face cleanser.
Less is more when it comes to Malin+Goetz’s Grapefruit Face Cleanser. This face wash effectively removes dirt without stripping the skin of vital oils. It is clear and colorless, with a slight grapefruit scent. The biggest thing I notice when using this cleanser is the lack of lather – which means it is gentle and doesn’t over-dry the skin. I used this face wash day and night with excellent results – no breakouts or signs of irritation. As usual, I immediately moisturized after every cleansing. The product’s thick texture allows you to use a little each time – which, even at $30, makes it a good value.

Price: $$ ($10-$20) – Available at Kiehl’s, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale’s.
Scent: Somewhat woodsy with a hint of pear. Menthol provides a tingling sensation.
I liked: how refreshing it felt in the shower. This all-one-cleanser is free of parabens and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Guys will find this product convenient – it really is gentle enough to use all over your body.
I didn’t like: the scent at first. The fragrance was quite strong when I smelled it out of the tube. However, I grew to like the scent after a couple of uses.
Here it is, guys. An all-in-one cleanser I can finally advocate using. Unlike a number of other all-in-one washes for the body, face, and hair, Kiehl’s Cross-Terrain ‘All-in-One’ Refueling Wash effectively cleans you from head to toe and wakes up the senses with a crisp, clean scent – all without the use of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and parabens. The scent was a bit strong at first (note: I sniffed it directly from the tube). However, when I used it in the shower, the fragrance was more balanced and pleasant. Menthol and citrus oils help energize while aloe vera and vitamin E help soothe and keep the skin from over-drying. If you need an all-in-one wash for the gym, consider this gentle yet effective option.

- Properly preparing your face by washing with warm water and a gentle face wash can help you achieve a smoother shave. Washing your face removes the dirt and debris that can hinder the glide of your razor. Using a gentle face scrub twice a week will optimize the shaving experience.
- When using shave cream, start by applying to the areas with toughest beard growth such as the chin. This gives the cream more time to penetrate and soften the beard.
- Nothing can hurt your face more than using a worn-out razor. Switch out your blade(s) the moment you notice your razor becoming dull. Signs include increased post-shave irritation/razor burn and frequent cuts.
- Always moisturize and condition your face with an alcohol-free aftershave balm or lotion. Don’t skimp in this department – one layer is usually not enough. Continue to apply until any sign of discomfort or irritation is gone and your face is properly moisturized.
- If you shower after you shave, be sure to moisturize again after showering.
