Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Burt’s Bees, Drugstore.com, and CVS .
Scent: Natural earthy blend of patchouli, bergamot, rosemary, and calendula.
I Liked: the scent as well as the product’s purity.
I didn’t like: the shave cream’s thin consistency.
Burt’s Bees Natural Skin Care For Men Shave Cream smells wonderful, reminiscent of the scents in some Aveda products. This 100% natural cream contains a calming blend of a variety of essential oils and extracts including patchouli, bergamot, rosemary, fir, chamomile, and calendula. In addition to smelling great, this cream soothes while you shave and does not over-dry your skin. It’s more of an everyday shave cream – I suggest using this product on lighter, one-to-two day beard growth. The cream’s relatively thin consistency may not be ideal for shaving a thicker, heavier beard.
Product Review: Aveda Men Pure-Formance Shampoo

Overall Rating: ★★★★★
Price: $$ ($10-$20) – Available at Aveda.
Scent: Earthy, woodsy.
I Liked: the scent and the gentleness of the shampoo.
I didn’t like: nothing.
The Aveda Men Pure-Formance Shampoo is one of the best I’ve tried in recent memory. What I enjoyed most about it is the scent – it’s masculine but not overpowering, with that great Aveda earthy, woodsy fragrance I’ve grown to love. This shampoo is kind to the hair as well as the scalp. My scalp typically feels itchy when I use a shampoo that isn’t gentle enough. This has not been the case with the Pure-Formance shampoo. It cleans without stripping the hair and scalp of vital oils. I highly recommend trying it out.

Product Review: Zirh Protect Daily Face Moisturizer
Posted in Moisturizers: Face, tagged anti-aging, avocado oil, face cream, Face Lotion, face moisturizer, Male Skin Care, Male skincare, Mens Grooming, non-greasy, product review, Zirh, Zirh protect review on June 15, 2011| Leave a Comment »
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $$$$ ($30-$40) – Available at Zirh.
Scent: Light citrus.
I Liked: how light the product felt. It moisturized without feeling greasy.
I didn’t like: the paraben preservatives.
Zirh’s Protect Daily Face Moisturizer is a lightweight face lotion that does a good job at moisturizing without leaving a greasy shine. It has a light citrus-like fragrance that even those with sensitive noses should find tolerable, if not enjoyable. Avocado oil and Vitamin E moisturize while Allantoin helps to soothe the skin – which makes this an ideal post-shave moisturizer. Fans of anti-aging products will appreciate the skin regenerating properties of its alpha-hydroxy acid content. Because this moisturizer lacks significant sun protection, it is a better option for those days spent mainly at home or in the office.
Product Review: Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Shaving Cream

Overall Rating: ★★★★★
Price: $$$ ($20-$30) 4 oz. tube – Available at Malin+Goetz, Grooming Lounge, and Barneys New York.
Scent: Menthol.
I liked: how cooling and invigorating it felt – no other shave cream comes close in this department. It rinsed easily off the blade and did not dry out my skin.
I didn’t like: Nothing. However, the major cooling sensation and price tag may take some getting used to.
It felt as if my face was in the Arctic when I used the Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Shaving Cream. I have never experienced a more cooling shave cream. The menthol really packs a powerful punch – ideal for those mornings when you need a little help waking up. Because this shave cream doesn’t really lather up it didn’t over-dry my skin – I’m sure the extra boost of vitamin e doesn’t hurt. Unlike some thick creams out there, this one didn’t clog up my razor cartridge – which I greatly appreciate since they cost a fortune to replace. Four ounces of this frigid goodness will cost you $22 – worth trying if you’re man enough to face its chill.
Product Review: Lab Series Max LS Instant Eye Lift
Posted in Eye Gels and Creams, tagged anti-ageing, anti-aging, Caffeine, crows feet, Cucumber, Dark Circles, Eye Cream, Eye Gel, eye puffiness, ingredients, ingredients list, Lab Series, Male Skin Care, Male skincare, Max LS, Men, puffy eyes on June 7, 2011| 2 Comments »
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $$$$$ ($40-$50) – Available at Lab Series, Macy’s, and Sephora.
Scent: None
I liked: how it tightened the area around my eyes and made my dark circles less noticeable.
I didn’t like: the pump dispenser.
The MAX LS Instant Eye Lift by Lab Series is a great eye cream specifically targeted at men. It is very light in texture and fragrance-free. What I noticed first when using this product was how effective it was at lightening the dark circles around my eyes – note: the effect was temporary but much appreciated nonetheless. In addition to providing a slight tingling sensation to awaken my eyes, this cream tightened the skin which made my crows feet a little less noticeable. It did a fairly good job at minimizing eye puffiness. Standout ingredients include: cucumber, caffeine, algae, sweet almond, green tea, aloe, and vitamin E. Some may appreciate the unique pump dispenser – I, however, was not a big fan of it. I worry that when I get to the end of the tube I’ll have to cut it open to dispense the remaining amount. If you have the cash to spend on a higher-end eye cream that works well at treating dark circles, lines, and puffiness around the eyes, Lab Series Max LS Instant Eye Lift is a candidate worth considering.
