I like: how incredibly nourishing the product is.  Absorbs easily into the skin.  Serves as an effective skin serum and moisturizer.  Great value.
Not a fan of: nothing.

I’ve heard many great things about using pomegranate seed oil to moisturize and alleviate a number of skin conditions.  As far as natural beauty oils go, pomegranate seed oil is one of the rarest and most expensive.  BEAUTYOILS.CO 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil is an effective moisturizer that works amazingly well at keeping my skin soft and youthful.  So far, I’ve used pomegranate seed oil as a nighttime moisturizer and aftershave.  The product helps keep razor burn and other skin irritations at bay.  BEAUTYOILS.CO Pomegranate Seed Oil is rich and absorbs very well into the skin.  If you’re curious about trying pomegranate seed oil, BEAUTYOILS.CO 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil is a great place to start – they offer high quality beauty oils that won’t break the bank.

eShave After Shave Soother Lavender Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $$$ ($20-$30) – Available at eShave and Amazon.
Scent: natural lavender.
I Like: the subtle scent.  Effectively soothes and moisturizes skin.
Not a fan of: the paraben preservatives.

Many of us underestimate the importance of moisturizing immediately after shaving.  In addition to getting rid of hair, shaving removes a fine layer of skin (troubling thought, right?).  If you don’t apply an alcohol-free aftershave balm or moisturizer, your skin suffers – first with redness and irritation, and ultimately with premature aging.  eShave’s Lavender After Shave Soother helps to keep skin soothed and nourished throughout the day.  It’s a relatively light lotion with a relaxing lavender scent.  The lotion absorbs easily into the skin and doesn’t leave a greasy shine.  At $27 for a six ounce bottle, eShave’s Lavender After Shave Soother is a healthy but worthwhile investment for those looking to maintain their youthful, good looks.

Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades Review Caulfield's Counter Men's Grooming Male Skincare

Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Amazon, West Coast Shaving and Grooming Lounge.
Scent: N/A
I like: the quality of the blades.  Gives you a close shave with minimal irritation (as long as you change the blade out every 3-5 shaves).  Great value.
Not a fan of: nothing.

Different blades work well with different people.  While the Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades worked very well with my skin and beard, they might not be as effective for others.  If you’re new to wet shaving, buy a sample pack of various blades and test them to see which ones give you the smoothest shaves with minimal cuts and irritation.  I used the Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades with my old school Gillette Tech razor made decades ago.  It was a match made in shave heaven.  These fine Astra blades balanced out my relatively heavy Gillette Tech razor nicely.  All I had to do was guide the razor across the surface of my skin – no pressure was necessary.  The best thing about the Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades is the price.  If you’re switching from disposable cartridge razors, you will notice the savings immediately.  Thanks to all of you who suggested I switch to wet shaving.  I am converted.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $$$$$ ($40-$50 for 2.6 oz) – Available at Dermalogica, Drugstore.com, and Ulta.
Scent: faint citrus-like fragrance.
I Like: the mild grittiness.  Makes it an ideal face scrub for sensitive skin.  Also contains salicylic acid, which helps keep acne and ingrown hairs at bay.
Not a fan of: the paraben ingredients.

Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Talc, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Colloidal Oatmeal, Oryza Sativa Bran (Rice), Oryza Sativa Starch (Rice), PCA, Allyl Methacrylates Crosspolymer, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Limonene, Methylparaben, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Allantoin (Comfrey Root), Salicylic Acid, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil (Grapefruit), Papain, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract (Licorice), Cyclodextrin, Melaleuca Altemifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil (Tea Tree)

Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant may be the best face scrub for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin.  This product differs from traditional exfoliants as it comes in powder form.  All you need to do is add water to activate the scrub.  It’s very gentle with a slightly noticeable grittiness.  While this exfoliant is marketed for daily use, I tend to use it about two to three times a week to help keep pores clear.  Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant comes with a hefty price tag, but a full-size 2.6 ounce bottle should last you at least six months.

Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $$$$$ ($40-$50) – Was available at Kiehl’s and Nordstrom (now discontinued).
Scent: Sweet blend of honey and spices.
I like: how well this rich body balm moisturizes – contains nourishing ingredients such as sea buckthorn oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter.  It smells amazing and puts me in a great mood.
Not a fan of: the price tag, though an eight-ounce tub should last one to two months.

Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm is one of my favorite body moisturizers.  This body balm has so much to like – from its wonderful scent, a calming blend of honey and spices, to its rich, luxurious consistency.  Nourishing ingredients such as sea buckthorn oil, cocoa butter, and shea butter help to keep the skin properly moisturized throughout the day.  I especially enjoyed using the product on my arms, legs, back, and chest – the balm prevented my skin from getting dry and itchy.  While this moisturizer does not come cheap (it costs $42 USD for an eight-ounce tub), it certainly spoils you with its relaxing scent and nourishing properties.  Give Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm a try to experience what I just described.

Lucky Tiger Face Scrub Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $$ ($10-$20) – Available at Lucky Tiger, Amazon, & Swanson Vitamins.
Scent: citrus with a hint of honey.
I Like: the subtle scent.  Effectively gets rid of dead skin and debris.  Great for before shaving
Not a fan of: the sodium laureth sulfate and BHT ingredients.

Gently exfoliating once or twice a week can help keep your complexion clear.  Face scrubs lift debris and dead skin cells that may be trapped in pores.  Lucky Tiger Face Scrub works particularly well for me before I shave.  The scent is a pleasant, uplifting blend of citrus and honey.  It contains some great natural ingredients including jojoba oil, green tea, hibiscus, borage oil, and honey.  Those with sensitive skin take note: the product’s exfoliating bits are not very fine, so you have to be extra gentle when scrubbing your skin.

In my attempt to look ten years younger, I prep and shave my beard with the following products: Bulldog Natural Skincare Original Face Wash, Beta Naturals All-In-One Clean Shave Oil + Moisturizer, and Bulldog Natural Skincare Original Shave Gel.  Watch the video to see if I succeed in my pursuit of youth.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Drugstore.com, Walgreens, and Ulta.
Scent: hard to describe “masking fragrance.”
I Like: how relatively gentle the cleanser is.  Low foaming.
Not a fan of: the sodium laureth sulfate and paraben ingredients.  Don’t care for the synthetic scent.

Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Cleanser is a good face wash to start with if you’re new to skin care.  It’s fairly inexpensive and much gentler on your skin than your typical bar soap.  This product is made for people with normal to oily skin, so if you have overly-sensitive skin, then I suggest using a face wash that is fragrance-free and made without sodium laureth sulphate, a known skin irritant.  What I like most about Cetaphil’s Daily Facial Cleanser is that it’s a clear, low-foaming gel that doesn’t dry out the skin too much.  I found the synthetic fragrance a little off-putting, but not unbearable.  Give this product a try if you’re tired of using that bar of Dial on your face.
