Scent: fragrance-free.
I like: how incredibly nourishing the product is.  Absorbs easily into the skin.  Serves as an effective skin serum and moisturizer.  Great value.
Not a fan of: nothing.

I’ve heard many great things about using pomegranate seed oil to moisturize and alleviate a number of skin conditions.  As far as natural beauty oils go, pomegranate seed oil is one of the rarest and most expensive.  BEAUTYOILS.CO 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil is an effective moisturizer that works amazingly well at keeping my skin soft and youthful.  So far, I’ve used pomegranate seed oil as a nighttime moisturizer and aftershave.  The product helps keep razor burn and other skin irritations at bay.  BEAUTYOILS.CO Pomegranate Seed Oil is rich and absorbs very well into the skin.  If you’re curious about trying pomegranate seed oil, BEAUTYOILS.CO 100% Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil is a great place to start – they offer high quality beauty oils that won’t break the bank.

The Real Shaving Company Sensitive Shaving Gel Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at The Real Shaving Company and Rite Aid Pharmacy.
Scent: masculine cologne-like fragrance.
I Like: the product’s clarity and thick consistency.  Great value.
Not a fan of: the strong scent.

Are you a shaving aficionado on a tight budget?  The Real Shaving Company’s Sensitive Shaving Gel is proof that you can get a quality English-made shave product for about five dollars.  What I enjoy most about this shave gel is its thickness and clarity.  The thickness provides a nice buffer to protect your skin while getting a close shave.  The clear gel allows you to see exactly what you’re shaving – ideal for those delicate, hard to reach places near the earlobes and under nose.  The aloe in the product helps to alleviate razor burn.  The cologne-like scent is quite strong, but I suppose you can’t ask for too much when you’re paying five bucks.

L'Occitane CADE After Shave Balm Men Review Caulfields Counter Grooming Male Skin Care Soothing Razor Burn Irritation

L'Occitane Cade After Shave Balm

L'Occitane CADE After Shave Balm Men Ingredients Caulfields Counter Grooming Razor Burn Soothing Irritation

L'Occitane Cade After Shave Balm Ingredients List

Overall Rating:
Price: $$$ ($30) – Available at Nordstrom, Amazon, and L’Occitane.
Scent: Woodsy blend of juniper, sandalwood, and birch.
I Liked: how well this product worked as a moisturizer.  The balm effectively soothed my skin and provided relief from razor burn.
Not a fan of: the potency of the scent.  I would like this product even more if the scent was less obvious.

L’Occitane’s Cade After Shave Balm is more like a face cream.  Its texture is very thick, which makes it better suited as a fall/winter moisturizer.  At $30 for a 2.5 ounce tube, this balm is relatively expensive.  However, a little of it goes a long way.  You should be able to get at least  four months of use out of one tube.  I enjoyed the scent despite how strong it was.  The fragrance is a blend of juniper, sandalwood, and birch with a hint of baby powder – it sounds like an odd combination but those scents somehow work well together.  Try it if you have dry skin or constantly suffer from razor burn.

Zirh Erase Aftershave Relief Tonic Ingredients List

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $$$$ ($30-$40) – Available at ZirhBeauty.com, Beautybar.com, and Amazon.
Scent: Subtle classic barbershop aftershave smell with a hint of citrus mixed in.
I Like: how the tonic soothes razor burn. Made from witch hazel, not alcohol. Pleasant masculine fragrance.
Not a fan of: the price. I’m accustomed to paying more for moisturizers, not toners.

Zirh’s Erase Aftershave Relief Tonic is one the few post-shave splashes I can recommend as it does not contain alcohol.  The calendula and chamomile ingredients are effective at soothing razor burn.  I’m not so sure about how well Zirh Erase works to treat razor bumps and ingrown hair.  It comes in a masculine-looking bottle – the dispenser has a small hole, which allows you to use the tonic sparingly.  One bottle should last you about 3-4 months with normal use.  This product does not moisturize so you’ll need to complement it with a face lotion.

Buy this product while you still can.  The Zirh brand is going away soon 😦

Do you use an aftershave balm thinking it is the only post-shave product you need to apply before leaving the house?  If so, you may want to reconsider your post-shave skincare routine as many aftershave balms contain alcohol, which can over-dry the skin, and do not possess the sustained moisturizing benefits of face lotions.  While aftershave balms can soothe the skin immediately after shaving, their effect is usually temporary.  Face moisturizers, on the other hand, soothe AND keep the skin properly moisturized throughout the day.  Also, it’s generally easier to find face moisturizers with sun protection.  The next time you’re in the men’s skincare aisle debating whether to buy the aftershave balm or face moisturizer, get both…or just buy the moisturizer if you want to keep it simple.  Just remember to use a lotion with an SPF before going out.

Before After Pre Shave Oil Dermalogica Caulfields Counter Close Shaving

From Sandpaper to Baby Bottom

Like many of you, I had minimal experience using pre-shave oil.  The thought of using anything other than shave cream and a razor to shave was completely foreign to me.  Pre-shave oils are much more popular in Europe.  However, the hype surrounding shaving oils is growing stateside.  Being the adventurous skincare guinea pig, I decided to implement a pre-shave oil into a recent shave.  Here are the results via YouTube:

Note: Be careful when selecting a pre-shave oil.  Make sure it is made of all natural ingredients such as grapeseed oil and jojoba oil.  Avoid products with synthetic or petroleum-based ingredients such as mineral oil as they tend to clog your pores and contribute to breakouts and other types of skin irritation.
