Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Target, Remington, and King of Shaves Direct.
Scent: Cool blend of tea tree oil, spearmint, and camphor.
I Like: the gel’s cooling effect. It’s an excellent value. Not animal tested. Made in the UK.
Not a fan of: the sodium laureth sulfate.
Not long ago, I was still using shave gel in a can. I thought the thick foam from canned shave gels and creams made for superior, less-irritating shaves. I was wrong. Most canned shaving products contain synthetic ingredients that can actually dry out and irritate sensitive skin. For those of you with sensitive skin still searching for a reasonably priced shave gel in a tube, may I suggest trying King of Shaves Alphagel Shave Gel. It contains aloe vera and tea tree oil to help soothe your skin. The gel’s translucence eliminates the guesswork in shaving – you see exactly where your blade is touching your skin. The energizing blend of spearmint and camphor cools and helps to wake you up in the morning. It has a medicinal, but tolerable scent – I actually like it. Try using this shave gel if you’re on a budget and have sensitive skin.

Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Dr. Bronner’s and The Vitamin Shoppe.
Scent: Blend of peppermint and spearmint.
I Like: how natural this product is. The scent is refreshing, but not overpowering.
Not a fan of: the thin texture.
Dr. Bronner’s Organic Spearmint Peppermint Shaving Gel is the most natural shave gel/cream I have ever used. It doesn’t contain any synthetic ingredients. The gel’s brown color may turn off some people, but this is only superficial and does not affect performance. The shave gel has a thin consistency and does not really lather up, which makes it especially ideal for wet shaving. Try this product out if you can’t stand using obnoxious-smelling shave gels loaded with artificial ingredients.

Price: $$$$$ (over $50) – Available at Origins and Macy’s.
Scent: Soothing blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli.
I like: the soothing herbal scent. Its thick texture thoroughly moisturizes without leaving a greasy film.
Not a fan of: the high price tag.
I’m a big fan of practically every offering in the Dr. Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom product line. My favorite product in the line is the Soothing Face Cream. I love how its intoxicating herbal scent – a natural blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli – puts me in a meditative state. The rich cream hydrates my skin without leaving it feeling greasy. A little goes a long way, making the higher price tag easier to digest. It’s versatile – you can use it day or night. As with other products in the Dr. Weil line, this cream is made without the unnecessary synthetic ingredients, such as parabens and artificial fragrances/colors, commonly found in skincare products. I recommend this cream for anyone with sensitive skin who suffers from redness or irritation.
