Scent: Soothing blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli.
I like: the soothing herbal scent.  Its thick texture thoroughly moisturizes without leaving a greasy film.
Not a fan of: the high price tag.

I’m a big fan of practically every offering in the Dr. Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom product line.  My favorite product in the line is the Soothing Face Cream.  I love how its intoxicating herbal scent – a natural blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli – puts me in a meditative state.  The rich cream hydrates my skin without leaving it feeling greasy.  A little goes a long way, making the higher price tag easier to digest.  It’s versatile – you can use it day or night.  As with other products in the Dr. Weil line, this cream is made without the unnecessary synthetic ingredients, such as parabens and artificial fragrances/colors, commonly found in skincare products.   I recommend this cream for anyone with sensitive skin who suffers from redness or irritation.

Scent: Fragrance free.
I Liked: the consistency – not too heavy, not too light.  UVA/UVB protection.  Effective at moisturizing.
I didn’t like: nothing.  Though this SPF face moisturizer is priced on the higher side, it is worth every penny.   

The Lab Series Skincare for Men Daily Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 15 is everything it claims to be.  It effectively moisturizes without leaving your skin feeling greasy.  As an added bonus, the lotion protects your face from the Sun’s UVA and UVB rays – ideal for keeping your skin looking youthful.  Those with sensitive skin will appreciate that this protective moisturizer is fragrance free.  It works on all skin types.  You only need to apply a small amount, which makes the higher price tag justifiable.

Aftershave Balms and Face Moisturizers: What’s the Difference?

Do you use an aftershave balm thinking it is the only post-shave product you need to apply before leaving the house?  If so, you may want to reconsider your post-shave skincare routine as many aftershave balms contain alcohol, which can over-dry the skin, and do not possess the sustained moisturizing benefits of face lotions.  While aftershave balms can soothe the skin immediately after shaving, their effect is usually temporary.  Face moisturizers, on the other hand, soothe AND keep the skin properly moisturized throughout the day.  Also, it’s generally easier to find face moisturizers with sun protection.  The next time you’re in the men’s skincare aisle debating whether to buy the aftershave balm or face moisturizer, get both…or just buy the moisturizer if you want to keep it simple.  Just remember to use a lotion with an SPF before going out.

I liked: the texture – was not greasy nor was it too light.  Sun protection.  This lotion had a refreshing scent and left my face feeling invigorated.
I didn’t like: the paraben preservatives.

Scent: Slightly floral. Difficult to decipher exactly what the smell is.
I liked: the rich texture and compact shape. Feels more like a moisturizer than an aftershave.
I didn’t like: the paraben preservatives and strong fragrance.

My experience with Ahava’s Soothing After-Shave Moisturizer for men was fairly good. The scent is subtle and not particularly masculine. It lacks any sort of brisk quality – there’s no “cooling” factor whatsoever. However, the cream does a great job at moisturizing. The product has a heavier consistency – like a thick, waxy lotion. Its compact packaging makes it ideal for travel. If you’re comfortable spending $30 for a 1.7 ounce bottle of an aftershave with a subtle floral fragrance that functions well as a moisturizer, then Ahava’s Soothing After Shave Moisturizer may be the product for you.
