Product Review: American Crew Post-Shave Cooling Lotion
Posted in Moisturizers: Face, Shave Products, tagged After-shave, Aftershave, American Crew, Cooling, Face Lotion, face moisturizer, Mens Grooming, post-shave, Shaving, tea tree oil on September 3, 2011| Leave a Comment »
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $$ ($10-$20) – Available at Drugstore.com and Amazon.
Scent: Slight hint of tea tree.
I Like: the light texture and mild cooling sensation.
Not a fan of: the paraben preservatives.
American Crew’s Post-Shave Cooling Lotion is a versatile, lightweight after shave balm that also acts as an all-purpose face moisturizer. The tea tree oil in the lotion helps soothe and disinfect, thus minimizing post-shave irritation. I recommend this product to those with normal to oily skin. Unless applied constantly throughout the day, this light lotion may not sufficiently moisturize dry skin.

Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Aubrey Organics, Drugstore.com, The Vitamin Shoppe, and Whole Foods Market.
Scent: Natural blend of pine, eucalyptus, and camphor .
I Like: that the product is made with 100% natural ingredients. The cool, tingling feeling of the cream. Less foam means you can see where you’re shaving.
Not a fan of: how the cream can occasionally clog the razor.
What I enjoy most about using Aubrey Organics Men’s Stock North Woods Shave Cream is knowing that it is made with all-natural ingredients and therefore less likely to cause major skin irritation. The brisk, tingling sensation of the cream may not appeal to all people, but I really enjoyed it – it wakes me up in the morning and makes shaving a bit more exhilarating. The fragrance is distinctly masculine – a natural blend of pine, eucalyptus, and camphor. Those seeking a lot of lather should look elsewhere – this shave cream does not generate a lot of foam, but it helps provide a slick surface for your razor to glide on.

Overall Rating: ★★★★★
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Burt’s Bees, Drugstore.com, and CVS.
Scent: Mildly masculine blend of bergamot, orange, patchouli, fir, and rosemary.
I like: the lotion’s gentleness, light consistency, all natural ingredients, mild scent, and versatility – it works as an aftershave/moisturizer. Not tested on animals.
Not a fan of: nothing.
Burt’s Bees Natural Skin Care for Men Aftershave works well on practically any skin type. Just because the packaging says “aftershave” doesn’t mean you can’t use it as an everyday moisturizer – it’s versatile, though you’ll need to apply a facial sunscreen with this product if you’re going out during the day . Because the lotion is 100% natural, it is ideal for those with sensitive skin who tend to breakout when using products with synthetic fragrances. The subtle, naturally masculine scent is just right – it’s a blend of bergamot, lemon, orange, patchouli, fir, and rosemary. If you’ve been using synthetic or alcohol-based aftershaves, now is the time for you to transition to more natural alternatives. Start by trying this great moisturizer.
Product Review: King of Shaves Alphagel Shave Gel Sensitive Skin
Posted in Contests, Shave Products, Videos, tagged Competition, contest, cool, Cooling, Giveaway, King of Shaves, Menthol, Remington, Sensitive skin, Shave Cream, shave gel, Shaving, tea tree on August 3, 2011| 1 Comment »
Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Price: $ (under $10) – Available at Target, Remington, and King of Shaves Direct.
Scent: Cool blend of tea tree oil, spearmint, and camphor.
I Like: the gel’s cooling effect. It’s an excellent value. Not animal tested. Made in the UK.
Not a fan of: the sodium laureth sulfate.
Not long ago, I was still using shave gel in a can. I thought the thick foam from canned shave gels and creams made for superior, less-irritating shaves. I was wrong. Most canned shaving products contain synthetic ingredients that can actually dry out and irritate sensitive skin. For those of you with sensitive skin still searching for a reasonably priced shave gel in a tube, may I suggest trying King of Shaves Alphagel Shave Gel. It contains aloe vera and tea tree oil to help soothe your skin. The gel’s translucence eliminates the guesswork in shaving – you see exactly where your blade is touching your skin. The energizing blend of spearmint and camphor cools and helps to wake you up in the morning. It has a medicinal, but tolerable scent – I actually like it. Try using this shave gel if you’re on a budget and have sensitive skin.
