Price: $$$$$ (over $50) – Available at Origins and Macy’s.
Scent: Soothing blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli.
I like: the soothing herbal scent.  Its thick texture thoroughly moisturizes without leaving a greasy film.
Not a fan of: the high price tag.

I’m a big fan of practically every offering in the Dr. Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom product line.  My favorite product in the line is the Soothing Face Cream.  I love how its intoxicating herbal scent – a natural blend of lavender, orange, and patchouli – puts me in a meditative state.  The rich cream hydrates my skin without leaving it feeling greasy.  A little goes a long way, making the higher price tag easier to digest.  It’s versatile – you can use it day or night.  As with other products in the Dr. Weil line, this cream is made without the unnecessary synthetic ingredients, such as parabens and artificial fragrances/colors, commonly found in skincare products.   I recommend this cream for anyone with sensitive skin who suffers from redness or irritation.

Great Value: The Real Shaving Company Shave Cream Sensitive Formula

Price: $ (under $10) – Available at The Real Shaving Company and Rite Aid stores.
Scent: Pine with a hint of citrus.
Benefits:  Thick texture allows for a comfortable shave; does not over-dry the skin; great value.
Drawbacks:  Those with sensitive noses may find the scent a bit strong.   

The Real Shaving Company’s Sensitive Formula Shave Cream is an exceptional value.  It outperforms some higher-end brands that cost three to four times as much.  The cream has a wonderfully thick texture that allows for a close, comfortable shave.  A little goes a long way.  I enjoyed its unique masculine scent – pine slightly infused with citrus.  However, some with sensitive noses may find the smell a bit strong.  This shave cream is definitely worth a try.

Scent: Fragrance free.
I Liked: the consistency – not too heavy, not too light.  UVA/UVB protection.  Effective at moisturizing.
I didn’t like: nothing.  Though this SPF face moisturizer is priced on the higher side, it is worth every penny.   

The Lab Series Skincare for Men Daily Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 15 is everything it claims to be.  It effectively moisturizes without leaving your skin feeling greasy.  As an added bonus, the lotion protects your face from the Sun’s UVA and UVB rays – ideal for keeping your skin looking youthful.  Those with sensitive skin will appreciate that this protective moisturizer is fragrance free.  It works on all skin types.  You only need to apply a small amount, which makes the higher price tag justifiable.

Price: $$$ ($20-$30) 4 oz. tube – Available at Malin+Goetz, Grooming Lounge, and Barneys New York.
Scent: Menthol.
I liked: how cooling and invigorating it felt – no other shave cream comes close in this department.  It rinsed easily off the blade and did not dry out my skin.
I didn’t like: Nothing.  However, the major cooling sensation and price tag may take some getting used to.

It felt as if my face was in the Arctic when I used the Malin + Goetz Vitamin E Shaving Cream.  I have never experienced a more cooling shave cream.  The menthol really packs a powerful punch – ideal for those mornings when you need a little help waking up.  Because this shave cream doesn’t really lather up it didn’t over-dry my skin – I’m sure the extra boost of vitamin e doesn’t hurt.  Unlike some thick creams out there, this one didn’t clog up my razor cartridge – which I greatly appreciate since they cost a fortune to replace.  Four ounces of this frigid goodness will cost you $22 – worth trying if you’re man enough to face its chill.

Malin+Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser

Price: $$$ ($30) – Available at Malin+Goetz, Bloomingdale’s, and Bigelow Chemists.
Scent: Light grapefruit.
I liked: how gentle this cleanser was on my face.  It got rid of the dirt without over-drying my skin.  The subtle smell of grapefruit was a nice, refreshing touch.
I didn’t like: nothing.  However, guys may be hesitant to spend $30 on a face cleanser.

Less is more when it comes to Malin+Goetz’s Grapefruit Face Cleanser.  This face wash effectively removes dirt without stripping the skin of vital oils.  It is clear and colorless, with a slight grapefruit scent.   The biggest thing I notice when using this cleanser is the lack of lather – which means it is gentle and doesn’t over-dry the skin.  I used this face wash day and night with excellent  results – no breakouts or signs of irritation.  As usual, I immediately moisturized after every cleansing.  The product’s thick texture allows you to use a little each time – which, even at $30, makes it a good value.
